| Special counters to be setup for SWD pensioners soon: Sakina | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 15: Minister for Social Welfare, Ms. Sakina Itoo, today said that special counters will be set at up at J&K Bank, branches, for the disbursement of pension to the Social welfare Department beneficiaries. Ms Itoo was speaking at a high level meeting of the officers of Social Welfare Department and the senior authorities of Jammu and Kashmir Bank, here today. Chairman, J&K Bank Ltd. Dr. Hasib Drabu was also present. Underlining the need for evolving a simplified system for delivery of pension, provided by the Social welfare Department, to old aged, destitute and handicapped persons, through Jammu and Kashmir Bank, she said it has been observed that beneficiaries face difficulties in receiving the pension, especially, in remote and far off areas. “We have to jointly evolve a strategy so that the process of disbursement of pension is made smooth”, she said and sought the cooperation of the Bank in setting up special counters, exclusively for distributing pension to the beneficiaries. She observed that the present system is time consuming and elderly people have to wait for long hours in queues, at bank counters, to receive the pension. Responding to the suggestions of the Minister, the Chairman of the Bank, Dr Hasib Drabu said that to start with, special Counters will be set up at Ramban and Reasi in Jammu division and Kupwara in Kashmir division, exclusively for the pensioners. He said these counters will remain open on all Saturdays and Sundays and added that the facility will be gradually extended to other areas. Dr. Drabu assured that J&K Bank will render every help to the State Social Welfare Department in serving the poor and needy people. Secretary, Social Welfare Department Mr. M.S Khan, Director, Social Welfare Department, Mr. Mahmood Rana, Dy. Secretary, and other senior officers of the department were present in the meeting.
