| Academy organizes programme on Kashmiri light music | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 15: Budding Kashmiri artists enthralled audience with Kashmiri songs in their melodious voices on the first day of 2-day programme organized by Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. Welcoming the Chief Guest and the distinguished audience, Secretary, Academy Zafar Iqbal Manhas outlined the underlying idea behind organizing such programme a non traditional area of Kashmiri speaking people. He said that besides providing platform to the light musicians and singers to perform at Jammu, it also provides entertainment opportunity to the Kashmiri music lovers. The programme was inaugurated by Mubark Gul, Adviser to Chief Minister. Noted Santoor Maestro Pandit Bhjan Sopiri was the guest of honour on the occasion. A large number of Kashmiris were present on the occasion who gave standing ovation to the artists. Some of them felt nostalgic with wet eyes. Prominent amongst the audience were Mohammad Shafi Pandit, Mohammad Yusuf Taing, and others. Artists who performed on the first day were Vijay Malla, Qaisar Nizami, Qazi Rafi, Nisar Hussain, Mir Muneer, Deepali Watal, Aquib Asad. Mubark Gul in his address appreciated the role of Academy in promoting Kashmiri language and encouraging the senior and budding Kashmiri music artist. The programme was conducted by Shameem Akhtar, Additional Secretary, while Savita Bakshi, Addl. Secy. Jammu presented vote of thanks. The programme was orchestrated by Krishan Langoo and Mipam Otsal.
