| Govt employees to go on strike today | | Teachers endorse EJAC’s strike call | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 15
Accusing government of backtracking from fulfilling the agreement reached between Union representatives and administration, a faction of government employees would observe two-day-long strike from tomorrow demanding implementation of agreement in letter and spirit. The strike call has been given by the Employees Joint Action Commitment with the support of several employees’ associations favouring amicable solution of the demands raised by the employees. The demands of employees include release of arrears of Sixth Pay Commission with effect from January 1, 2006 in favour of employees and pensioners, release of pending 5 per cent HRA, issuance of order for regularization of all temporary, ad hoc, consolidate, contractual employees and daily rated workers before and after 1994, removal of pay anomalies of various cadres, enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60 years as per commitment, conversion of Cola into DA of PSU employees and enhancement of wages of Anganwari workers and helpers. The employees have blamed that the government has adopted adamant, negative and indifferent attitude, besides creating wedge among the employees and retired counterparts. They alleged that the government’s lopsided reaction vis-à-vis non implementation the commitments and agreements made with the employees representatives on February 19, 2009 has been forcing employees to resort to agiational path. In Jammu city, the striking employees would assemble at Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu to hold massive rally at 11 a.m to show their monolithic unity, solidarity to stress upon the government to concede the already agreed demands. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir School Teachers Association (JKSTA) has endorsed the two-day-token strike call given by Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) on February 16 and 17. Addressing media persons here today, Bansi Lal Sharma, Hari Singh and Darshan Lal, leaders of the organisation said that the Association being the part and parcel of the employees struggle and it would support the strike call of EJAC with full might. They stressed upon the government to release the arrears of the 6th pay commission from January 2006. They urged all the leaders of trade unions, associations and federations to come on single platform and fight for the cause jointly.
