| No immediate terrorist threat perception in Jammu: Police | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 15
Though Union Home Minister’s statement about the persistent threat to India from terrorists’ organizations operating from Pakistan, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, however, have said that there were no intelligence inputs that hint any immediate threat perception. Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram, in a recent statement to the media, had said that there was continuous threat of attacks in Indian cities from the terrorist organizations. Notwithstanding the apprehensions expressed by the Union Minister, the Police authorities in Jammu have expressed ignorance regarding any such reports and say that they have no specific inputs from the intelligence agencies. However, they said that security agencies are on the job to meet every eventuality. “Routine surveillance was intact and close watch was being kept to frustrate any move by the terrorist,” said Jammu IGP Ashok Gupta. Gupta said that every entry and exit point across Jammu division was being closely monitored and claimed that security agencies, including Jammu and Kashmir Police was ready enough to frustrate any move, intended to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere of the state. The Jammu region has witnessed a beefed up security arrangements, after several infiltration bids were witnessed along International Border during past few months. Attempts by the terrorists, to infiltrate through International Border were being viewed seriously in India. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister, at recently held Chief Minister's Conference on internal security had expressed serious concerns over the fresh developments, describing these as ‘worrisome’.
