| Tragedy averted in Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Feb 15: Jammu and Kashmir police averted a major tragedy when they detected and defused a powerfull Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by militant under a bridge to disrupt road communication in Baramulla district, official source said here today. They said a specific information was received that militants had planted a 5.5 kg IED under Neeth bridge connecting several villages in Sopore, about 55 km from here. Traffic on the bridge was immediately stopped and those present in the area were taken to safer places. Later, Bomb disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned and the IED was defused without causing any damage. Had it not been detected and defused on time, it could have caused much damage to life and property, they said adding a massive hunt has been launched to nab the militants responsible for planting the IED. In the recent past, Sopore and its adjoining areas witnessed sudden increase in the militant violence.
