| Kailash, Waheed, Gulzar enthralls audience | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 16: Kailash Mehra, Waheed Jeelani, Gulzar Gania, among others held the audience spell bound on the second day of 2 day Kashmiri light music programme organized by the Academy of Art, Culture and Languages here today. Ghulam Mohammad Saroori Minister for R&B was the chief guest. Two day programme was inaugurated on 15 Feb by the advisor to chief minister Mubarak Gul welcoming the chief guest and the distinguished audience, the Secretary, Academy Zafar Iqbal Manhas reiterated the underlying idea behind organizing such programme at non traditional area of Kashmiri speaking people. He said that besides providing platform to the light musicians and singers to perform at Jammu, it also provides entertainment opportunity to the Kashmiri music lovers. He further said that such programmes in other regional languages like Dogri, Gojri, Ladakhi etc will also be held in non speaking areas Noted Santoor Maestro Pandit Bhajan Sopori was conspicuous by his presence among the large number of Kashmiri lovers who gave standing ovation to the artists. Some of them felt nostalgic with wet eyes with the melodious voices of the artists who through singing advocated for peace, brotherhood and communal harmony. The artists who performed on the first day were Wahed Jeelani, Kailash Mehra, Shazia Bashir, Gulzar Ganie Zulai Khah. The chief guest GM Saroori in his address appreciated the role of academy in promoting Kashmiri language and encouraging the senior and budding kashmiri music artists. He assured that the government will do every thing possible to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the state and said that the government will provide adequate assistance to the academy for increasing its activities throughout the state. The programme was conducted by Shameem Akhtar, Additional secretary, central while Savita Bakshi, addl. Secy. Jammu presented vote of thanks. The programme was orchestrated by Krishan Langoo and Mipam Otsal.
