| VKM urges streamlining of Education scenario. | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 16: A meeting of Vichar Karanti Manch International was held today and presided over by its Vice President Madan Sharma. After protracted discussions, it was decided to convey to CM Omar Abdullah and Minister for School Education Peer Zada Mohammad Sayeed that even through VKMI welcomes, appreciates and congratulates for the initiative taken by the government to have introduced moral education in all schools at the Morning Assembly as its one of the achievements in Education sector (Placed at S.No 24 in the list of 26 achievements as published in all leading Newspapers dated 09-02-10 as DIP/J-1483-P/10 issued by education department which ought to have figured at serial no 1st in the list in view of its vital significance in building a value based society which presently is shockingly missing), yet VKMI feels that it is simply an eye wash keeping in view continuous struggle made by VKMI since 2 years by constantly persuading the matter of introduction of Moral and ethical values in all schools at all levels as a compulsory subject for which Peer commissioner/secretary school Education, Chairman Dr. Desh Bandu Gupta and Secretary Dr. Bashir Ahmed of BOSE had been fully convinced and had been assuring us for its early implementation and holding series of seminars on this subject. Making assembly lectures on moral values though a welcome gesture, however it is meaningless and a futile exercise until and unless it is linked with marks enabling the students to secure good grades. This is a proven fact that no students, no teacher, no parent bothers for any optional subject. Therefore VKMI strongly urge CM and Minister for School Education to kindly get the subject of moral and ethical education introduced as a compulsory subject in all government and private schools from nursery to 12th classes from the coming session itself. Meeting was attended inter-alia others by prominent members of VKMI A.K.Raina Retd Director School Education, Laj Ram Retd Director Social Welfare, Capt. P.P. Singh, Ram Rattan Sharma General Secretary VKMI, Dr. R.R. Khajuria Founder VKMI etc.
