| PFP causes cracks in Mirwaiz led Hurriyat | | | Early Times report Srinagar, Feb 16: In a development that may have far reaching consequences on Mirwaiz led Hurriyat Conference, Peoples Freedom Party (PFP) decided to boycott the meetings of the separatist conglomerate. PFF also asked the leaders to explain how they had been evading arrest and why Shabir Shah alone was persecuted every time. The acting chairman of PFP, Moulana Tori lashed out at the executive members for their failure to implement decisions taken in connection with restructuring of the conglomerate. Tori also took serious note of the executive council’s failure to agitate “repeated arrests and detention of Shabir Ahmad Shah.” Tori said the reaction of the conglomerate has remained confined to condemning the arrests. “May we ask as to why Shabir Shah happens to be the only executive member to be arrested repeatedly?” Tori questioned. He said: “If seeking freedom is a sin then all executive members have been committing it. Why Shabir Shah alone is being persecuted and how other leaders have been evading arrest?” Tori informed the executive council of PFP’s decision to abstain from meetings till decisions taken in presence of Shabir Shah were implemented in letter and spirit. Expressing surprise over unnecessary delay in implementing the decisions, Tori said: “If the conglomerate is restructured as agreed in earlier meetings, PFP will reconsider it decisions of abstaining from the meetings.” The Hurriyat chairman, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq suspended all councils and posts on November last year following conglomerate’s acceptance of union Home Minister’s `secret talks offer’. Shabir Shah, Nayeem Khan, Zaffar Akber Bhat and Muhammad Yusuf Naqash openly criticized the Hurriyat Conference for “going against the tide.” The leaders sough restructuring of the conglomerate. The decision to this effect was taken as all the executive members agreed in principle with the proposal. However, following arrest of Shabir Shah and Nayeem Khan, the much awaited decision has been deferred indefinitely. Today’s development has been perceived as a major setback to Mirwaiz led Hurriyat. This is the first time when an executive member has taken such a stand against the amalgam. The recent statement of Nayeem Ahmad Khan wherein he stated that only those leaders who opposed the secret dialogue were taken into custody has also made things difficult for the separatist amalgam. The executive members will have to do a lot of explaining on Tori’s explanation. The general council members, it may be mentioned are sick of what they call hijacking of the amalgam by the executive members. According to them, some organizations have two or three members only but as executive members influence the decisions and functioning of the amalgam. Meanwhile Hurriyat Conference issued a statement late this evening welcoming the proposed Indo-Pak talks. The statement did not mention Tori’s outburst. The conglomerate has decided to agitate Shabir Shah’s arrest.
