| Employees call for 3 more days strike from March 11 | | Work paralyses in govt offices, PSUs on 2nd day | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 17: Stepping up their tirade against the State government for its failure to fulfill the already agreed demands of employees, Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC)-an amalgam of several unions of government employees-today called for another three days strike on March 11, 12 and 13. The routine functioning, however, in all government offices and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) remained completely paralyzed on second consecutive day today as thousands of employees observed strike to stress upon the government to fulfill their long pending demands. The health services in all government hospitals including Government Medical College Jammu remained affected on second day as the para-medical and lower rung officials stayed away from their duties. As per the scheduled programme, the employees under the banner of EJAC took out protest rallies at district and tehsil headquarters to protest government’s apathy towards employees cause. In Jammu, thousands of employees of different departments assembled at Government Medical College Bakshi Nagar and shouted anti-government slogans. The union leaders criticized the government for “dilly dallying” tactics against the employees, who have been demanding justice since long. Those who addressed the striking employees included Pardeep Kumar, Ram Kumar Sharma, Mohammed Gafoor Dar, Sushil Sudan, Subash Chander Verma, Balwan Singh Jamwal, Hari Singh, Gulam Nabi Bhat, Prem Singh Bawa, Abdul Rashid, Gurmeet Singh, Bharat Bushan Vijay Luthra and others. They warned of intensifying their strike in days to come if government refuses to concede their genuine demands. In Srinagar striking employees assembled at Partap Park and held a massive rally in protest of the indifferent government attitude towards them. The protesters were shouting slogans against the government with placards in their hands criticizing the “ill-attitude” of government towards the lakhs of employees demanding justice since long. The leaders said that the employees were part and parcel of civil administration and hence any confrontation between the two was unwarranted, adding that it was imperative for Government to settle the pending demands of employees. The employees were addressed by Mohammed Maqbool Ganai, Rafiq Ahmed Kharaiyari, Khursheed Ahmed Kuttey, Gulzar Ahmed Bandey and others Meanwhile, the employees of Revenue Department also observed strike and supported the call of Joint Consultative Committee in order to press the State Government to fulfill the demands put forth by the Joint Consultative Committee. The leaders along with large number of employees of J&K Revenue Employees Association attended the demonstrations at various places including Jammu and Srinagar where a huge gathering of employees from other Departments also assembled and supported the cause of the employees’ whole heartedly. It has further been resolved to support the cause of JCC body which is a constituent of various organizations and the Revenue Employees being independent body is not bound by any decision of any other organizations except JCC.
