| ‘Shimla Theatre Festival-2010’ | | Balwant Thakur to head theatre expert panel | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 17: Director Natrang Theatre, Balwant Thakur has been nominated by National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama, New Delhi to head the expert panel of Shimla Theatre Festival-2010. Organised by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi in collaboration with Himachal Academy of Arts, Culture & Literature, the festival is going to commence from February 23 at the historic 150-year-old Gaiety Theatre Shimla. This important theatre event is being inaugurated by Prem Kumar Dhumal, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh which is going to be the major International attraction of art lovers to the picturesque snow-clad hilly city Shimla. As per the press statement, Balwant Thakur would artistically assess each theatre production being staged in the festival and would interact with the participating team on the following day of the performance to see the possibilities of further improvement in their respective productions. During his stay in Shimla, the Department of Language and Culture, Government of Himachal Pradesh would also organize a programme ‘Face-to-Face- with Balwant Thakur’ which would include a major presentation on his theatre and its unique dramaturgy. In the year 1988, Balwant Thakur did a major project for the Himachal Government in which he traveled all the twelve districts of the state and documented all their performing art traditions.
