| National Federation of Blind meets Governor | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, FEB 17: A deputation of the National Federation of the Blind, Jammu and Kashmir State Branch, Jammu, called on the Governor, N. N. Vohra, at Raj Bhavan, here today and submitted a memorandum of their demands. The demands projected by the deputation, interalia, included restoration of one percent reservation quota of jobs for the blind as per the J&K Handicapped Act VI of 1998 and the Central Act of 1995 by withdrawing SRO 62 of 2001; provision of funds for construction of one room set for Chowkidar at the Louise Braille Memorial Residential School for Sightless Girls at Roopnagar and allotment of land for residential purposes for the visually impaired persons and institutions being run for the handicapped. The deputation comprised General Secretary of the Federation, Ram Dass Dubey, its Treasurer, Roshan Bhan, and Principal of the Louise Braille Memorial Residential School for Sightless Girls, Roopnagar, B. L. Verma. The deputationists thanked the Governor for providing Rs. 50,000 for the Louise Braille Memorial Residential School for Sightless Girls. The Governor gave a patient hearing to the deputation and said that it is the obligation of the society to take adequate care of the physically challenged persons and ensure their welfare and socio-economic advancement. He said that he would shortly visit the Louise Braille Memorial Residential School for Sightless Girls and see for himself what measures are required for further upgrading the facilities for the inmates of this institution.
