| Novel system of redressing people’s grievances at their doorsteps introduced in J&K | | Azad visits Kupwara, meets thousands at public hearing | | Kupwara, October 11 Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad’s programme of listening grievances of the people in their respective areas and issuing appropriate orders for redress thereof on spot was initiated today from far-flung district of Kupwara. Today early in the morning, Chief Minister reached Kupwara where long queues of people were waiting for him. It is for the first time that this novel system has been introduced in Jammu and Kashmir that whosoever has sought appointment with Mr. Azad living in far-flung area, Chief Minister in order to facilitate them has decided to visit the areas himself. This system will help to save the time, traveling expenditure and inconvenience to the people and deputations from far-flung areas, who had to travel long distances to reach Srinagar private office of Chief Minister, particularly in view of the holy month of Ramadan. The deputations that called on Chief Minister at Kupwara included Aman Committee Lolab Sogam, Ramhal Welfare Forum, parents of children who suffered in Wullar boat tragedy, All Jammu and Kashmir Pasmanda Tabkajat, inhabitants of Kalaroos, Kupwara, Villgam, Handwara, Hayahama Trehgam, Kralpora, Langate, Qaziabad and Machil. The people appreciated this noble gesture of Mr. Azad and accordingly Chief Minister has decided that he will hold such grievance redressal public hearings in other districts soon. By this an effective and practical grievances addressing system got born where Chief Minister himself traveled to people’s home area to hear them and issue spot directions for solution of difficulties by the officers of district, tehsil and block levels who were available for quick disposal and implementation of Chief Minister’s orders. Chief Minister while talking to deputations from Villgam, Qaziabad and other areas said that niab tehsildar posted in niabat would be entrusted powers of tehsildar so that he is able to dispose off important matters at his level and traveling of people to tehsil headquarter for disposal of small matters is avoided. Mr. Azad ordered for construction of roads and culverts and completion of bridges at several places, establishment of social welfare units, parks and launching other development works. He also assured various deputations that matter for operationalizing TV centres at Kupwara and Tangdhar will be taken up with the Information and Broadcasting Ministry. Observing that various posts of BSNL are vacant in far-flung areas which has adversely affected operation of telephone system which would be taken up with the concerned authorities, he told the people. Various deputations brought into the notice of Chief Minister that doctors and other para-medical staff who have been appointed under reserved category on the basis of backwardness of the area are not working in those areas but have preferred city postings. He assured them that he will ensure that the trend is reversed soon. Chief Minister assured the deputations that new policy with regard to SRO-43 will be formulated so that ex-gratia relief is increased on the one side and quality employment out of this category is made on the other. Mr. Azad also advised power development authorities that supply of power in the area should be properly regulated in such a manner that people are able to get power as per announced schedule.
