2/17/2010 11:22:54 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Feb

Demanding immediate removal of heads of Regional News Units of Doordarshan Kendera Srinagar and Radio Kashmir Srinagar, the Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation (TRCF)-a frontal organisation of Gujjars-today alleged that both prestigious wings of public broadcast are miserably failed to deliver their duties.
The organisation further alleged that both wings of public broadcast have turned into a hub of corruption, favouritism and nepotism.
In a letter signed by all socio-political dignitaries of Gujjars sent to Ambica Soni, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, the organisation alleged that the DD News Srinagar and AIR New Srinagar, especially the Urdu Bulletin aired on state hook-up, did not even cover the socio-cultural functions, gatherings, seminars, press briefings of marginalised communities and ethno linguistic minorities including Gujjars which constitute more than 20 per cent of the population of State.
Giving detail about the contents of the letters, Dr Javaid Rahi, secretary of the foundation said that during the visit of Ambica Soni, in October last, the organisation had a meeting her and it had lodged a strong protest against non-coverage and misrepresentation of Tibals on daily News bulletins telecast from DD Srinagar and broadcast from Radio Kashmir Srinagar but till date no steps have been taken by the Union Ministry in this regard.
He further said, “We have sent a reminder to the Union Minister in this regard with a request to immediately remove, Bashir Malik, Deputy Director DD News Srinagar and Gurjeet Malik, Deputy Director News Radio Kashmir Srinagar as both husband and wife are badly indulged in corruption, favouritism and nepotism and are biased and unfair with tribals and are miserably in delivering their duty on DD and Radio.”
He disclosed that the organisation is preparing to lodge a suite in Special Court for anti- corruption in next few days for an independent inquiry about all “illegal assets” of worth rupees crores allegedly accumulated by Bashir Malik DD Doodrashan and his wife Gurjeet Malik DD AIR Srinagar as their property is just over and above to their known sources.
