| Rural Sports and Cultural Meet for Women held | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 18: The Viraj Kala Kendra, a Jammu based local NGO, organized a Rural Cultural and Sports Meet for Women at Youth Hostel, Khanpur, Nagrota today. The Meet was sponsored by the Youth Services and Sports Department.
The First Lady, Usha Vohra, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, lit the ceremonial lamp to declare the Meet open.
Speaking on the occasion, the First Lady lauded the continuing efforts of the Viraj Kala Kendra for the socio-economic upliftment of the rural women and educational advancement of the children of such areas.
Referring to the sports activities and the cultural programme presented on the occasion, she said that there is vast talent among the women and children of the rural areas, which needs to be adequately channelised. She appreciated the participants of the cultural and sports events for their confidence and talent and for presenting a captivating programme without any formal training.
The First Lady presented a cheque of Rs. 25,000 to the Viraj Kala Kendra for carrying on its activities.
Vohra gave away prizes to those who presented the cultural programme and the participants adjudged best in the races organized as part of this event.
Earlier, Mrs. Vohra went around the exhibition of the various crafts organized on the occasion and evinced keen interest. These products have been prepared by the women associated with the Viraj Kala Kendra.
The Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association, Dr. Indu Khoda, the Director, Handloom, Mrs. Chandra Gupta, Corporator, Santosh Magotra, Members of the Viraj Kala Kendra, prominent women, senior officers, a large number of women of the area and the children of the Viraj Bal Bhavan were present on the occasion.
