| Registration/affiliation with NYK approved: Chib | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 18: Jammu Feb 18: In a significant move to involve youth in gainful avocations, the process for registering 8,000 young volunteers to perform as tourist guides etc in Jammu and Kashmir will take off soon, in consonance with the announcement made by Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh to Srinagar last year. Decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the officers of the State level Advisory Committee on Youth Programme, held here today. Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Mr. R.S. Chib was in the Chair. The meeting resolved to make registration of the volunteers at Panchayat level and approved the affiliation of the volunteers with the Nehru Yuva Kendra. The Prime Minister is being approached to formally launch the programme in May this year. Addressing the meeting, Mr. Chib urged for proper utilization of the potential of youth, adding that they are the future of tomorrow who have to immensely contribute in nation building. Referring to the role to be played by the volunteers, he said that a strong contingent of them would be deployed for cleanings and maintenance of world famous Dal and Nagin Lakes, creating awareness about environment, National Mission for Female Literacy, Health and Sanitation and Disaster Management besides acting as tourist guides to promote adventure, leisure and pilgrim tourism in the State. It was also decided in the meeting that the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghathan, J&K Chapter would organise a National Integration Camp (NIC) on February 22 and 23, 2010 at Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall, Budgam and Jammu in which youth from the State and outside would participate.
