| ANC demands revocation of AFSPA for normalcy | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 19: Jammu and Kashmir Awami National Conference (JKANC) today joined the chorus with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other Kashmir based political outfits demanding revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the State. Addressing media persons here, Muzaffar Shah, vice president JKANC took a dig at the National Conference led coalition government for “mis-governance” and asked the legislators of different political parties including Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, Leader of the Opposition and senior bureaucrats to make public their income tax returns of past 15 years in order fight the menace of corruption in the state. “The state has become the second most corrupt states in the country and if the state government wants to remove this stigma attached with it the top most leadership and senior bureaucrats should make public details of their income tax returns of last 15 years to set an example for all others to follow,” Shah maintained. The JKANC said that in the recent months security situation has got worsen in Kashmir valley as security forces have been indulged in “misusing” AFSPA. “This is evident from the killing of two Kashmiri boys, Waqim Ahmed and Zahid, in Srinagar which led to spate of incidents of stone pelting and unrest in the valley after witnessing a relative calm,” he said. The leader asserted that in order to instill confidence among the common masses it would be prudent to repeal AFSPA. Over recently announced proposal of surrender policy aimed at facilitating return of Kashmiri militants who had crossed over to PoK, Shah said, “It is nothing but a political gimmick and would not yield any fruitful result unless the core issue of people of Kashmir would be addressed by both the centre and the state governments.” He said, “There is large number of youth staying in jails outside the state and if the Omar Abdullah led coalition government is keen to bring back the youth into mainstream he should work on taking these youth back to Kashmir and then talk of those who crossed over to Pakistan occupied Kashmir.”
