| JKNPP flays Centre for hike in Urea prices | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 19: Condemning the decision of the Central government for increasing the prices of Urea fertilizers, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party today described the move as “anti-farmers” saying it would adversely affect the farmers’ community. In a press statement issued here, Hari Chand Jalmeria, state general secretary JKNPP and state president of Kisan Sabha further said that the hike in 10 per cent Urea fertilizers would directly hit the agricultural production as the farmers of the country are already facing distress due to prolonged drought conditions and general price rise. “This anti-farmer decision of the UPA government would not only adversely hit the farmers’ community but would result into decrease in agricultural production and worsening of the price rice of the essential commodities in the country. The life of the common people would further deteriorate,” he observed. The JKNPP leader said, “In the draught like conditions it was must for the government of India to come out to help the farmers and provide them fertilizers free of cost or at the very low rates so that they can raise the agricultural production in the country. The UPA government is more interested in imports of the food grains than to increase the agricultural production within the country.” Jalmeria has asked the UPA government to give up the decision to raise the prices of the fertilizers and adopt ‘help the farmer’s policy.’
