| ‘JKNPP to play a role of vibrant opposition in Assembly’ | | Govt ignores Jammu, terms 2010 'Visit Kashmir Year': Harsh | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 19: Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) today reiterated that it would play the role of constructive and vibrant opposition inside the both houses of State Legislature. The Party has resolved to oppose, expose and depose the double speak on Jammu of the ruling National Conference-Congress alliance as it has subjected Jammuites to unprecedented discriminatory treatment. Addressing media persons here, Harsh Dev Singh, Leader of JKNPP Legislature Party while alleging discrimination against Jammu said that the state government has yet again ignored Jammu region by terming 2010 as 'Visit Kashmir' year. ''The state government has declared 2010 as 'Visit Kashmir year', which is quite unmindful of the tourism potential of Jammu region,'' the JKNPP leader said. He further alleged Jammu's name was totally ignored and omitted from the tourism promotion campaign launched in different parts of the country as well as abroad. “Not only the promotion campaign, but the Jammu-based lakes and water bodies were also ignored in the matter of allocation of funds,” he said, adding that Rs 1,100 crore project was submitted to the Union Government for conservation of the Dal lake,” he said. “Rs 386 crores had already been sanctioned for the Dal lake while Rs 350 crore has been allocated for Wullar lake in Kashmir,” he said, adding “The state government has further estimated Rs 2,200 crore package for conservation of Jhelum river, but the water bodies of Jammu region has been neglected.” “'The unequal allocation of development funds between the two regions was a matter of dispute for several years and the present government has perpetuated the policy of deprivation of this region by announcing release of funds for various districts of Kashmir without even going through formal process of plan formulation,” alleged the JKNPP MLA. He asserted that the JKNPP MLAs would vociferously project in the Assembly highly “biased approach” of the coalition government that was evident from the “Kashmir centric policies” being pursued with full vigour and total neglect of the Jammu based issues.
