| Sagar for effective implementation of Land Use Act | | |

Minister for Law and Parliament Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar has underscored the need for strict adherence to the Land Use Act so that conversion of agricultural land for other purposes is checked effectively. Minister was speaking at a high level meeting held under his chairmanship, for a comprehensive review of Legislative Frame Work of “Land Use”Act. Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir and Minister for Revenue, Raman Bhalla, who are members of the Committee, were also present. Sagar said that in no case agricultural land should be allowed to be converted for other purposes as it can have an adverse effect on socio-economic environment and also lead to food scarcity in the near future. Minister for Agriculture GH Mir while expressing his views said that laws should be made stricter, so that the tendency of land conversion can be curbed. Minister for Revenue Raman Bhalla said that instructions have already been passed to the field officers to stop the violation of existing land use laws, adding that the provision for penalizing the violators would be made more stringent. It was decided that a monthly report would be prepared about the number of land use violations reported, disposed off and the quantum of penalties imposed. It was also decided to impose penalty on field functionaries for non-reporting about the violations, adding that incentives would be given to the officers for implementing the Land Use Act effectively. Principal Secretary, Agriculture, Iqbal Khandey, Commissioner/ Secretary, R&B, Mehboob Iqbal, Commissioner/ Secretary, Revenue Ajaj Iqbal, Seceratry Law, GH Tantray and senior officers of Revenue, Law, R&B and Agriculture also attended the meeting.
