| Governor briefed on House business | | Speaker meets Chief Whips | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 19: On last working day of the week ahead of an expectedly stormy budget session, the Speaker of Legislative Assembly Mohammad Akbar Lone and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar today had an hour-long meet with Governor NN Vohra briefing him about the House business.
On February 15 the state Cabinet had approved the address of the Governor to be delivered at joint sitting of the legislature on February 22. Monday morning will be the second time when Governor Vohra addresses joint session of state legislature. Last year he had left his speech midway as Opposition parties PDP and BJP created unprecedented noisy scenes in the Central Hall.
Earlier in the day, the Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone today chaired a meeting of Chief Whips and representatives of all political parties in the House to discuss smooth conduct of the ensuing Budget Session, commencing February 22, 2010.
Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, Minister for Rural Development, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Advisor to Chief Minister and Chief Whip National Conference, Mubarak Gul, Leaders of Legislature parties and Chief Whips including Chaman Lal Gupta, Hakim Mohammad Yaseen, Harsh Dev Singh, Ashok Kumar Khajuria, Ashwani Kumar Sharma, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat and Basharat Ahmed Bukhari attended the meeting.
The Speaker sought cooperation from all the political parties to ensure the conduct of the Business of the House in free, fair and cordial manner. He assured the Members that the business material would be provided to them at an appropriate time.
Mr. Lone hoped that the Members will help in maintaining the sanctity of the House and ensure the conduct of the Business in a cordial atmosphere.
Members, present in the meeting, gave valuable suggestions and assured the Speaker of their full cooperation for smooth functioning of the Session.
Later, the Speaker provided Laptops to the Legislators.
Secretary, Legislative Assembly M. Ramzan and other senior officers of Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.
