2/19/2010 11:58:02 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 19: In a suddenly assuming attitudinal change towards the main opposition, the government has embarked on taking the Peoples Democratic Party heads on for making unpleasant noises.
In latest turn of events, he National Conference led coalition government today withdrew the security of PDP president for Pulwama. The security of PDP youth wing’s secretary general was also withdrawn. This development comes a day after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah got annoyed over a protest staged by PDP activists in Pulwama while review meeting of District Development Board was going on.
Earlier last week, the Chief Minister had reportedly lashed out at the PDP legislator Zulfikar Ali in the review meeting of District Development Board at Rajouri. According to MLA, he was forced by the Chief Minister to sit quiet in the meeting when alleged discrimination against his constituency in allocation of funds. To this the CM is reported to have said, “I don’t need to consult you”.
Terming it an act vengeance, the PDP accused Chief Minister of carrying out his threat issued during Pulwama board meeting yesterday. Pertinent to mention, the Chief Minister got annoyed when a group of persons registered protest at Pulwama yesterday when the board meeting was in session. The Chief Minister took strong exception to the protests and ordered an enquiry. He also directed the authorities not to spend an additional amount of around eight crores till the persons involved in protests were identified and punished.
The PDP president for Pulwama, according to a statement issued here this evening, is a former MLA and had been placed by the concerned in Y security category. Showkat Gayoor, who is the general secretary of PDP’s youth wing, is believed to be at high risk. His father was killed by the militants, the statement said.
The withdrawal of security has exposed the real face of National Conference, said the statement. “National Conference cannot break the determination of the opposition by such cheap methods”, the statement read.
