| Workshop on ‘Development of Self Learning Material’ begins | | |

JAMMU, Feb 20
A two-day workshop on the topic “Development of Self Learning Material” organized by Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), University of Jammu, commenced here today.
Near about 50 participants from the discipline of English, Sociology, Urdu, Commerce, Management, Education and Hindi from Post-Graduate departments of Jammu University (JU) and affiliated colleges are participating in the workshop.
Noted trainers and distance education experts specialized in the field of development of learning Prof CRK Murthy and Dr Ashok Gaba from Staff Training and Research Institute of Distance Education (STRIDE), Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi are the resource persons for the workshop.
The workshop was inaugurated by Commissioner Secretary Higher Education, NK Verma.
In his inaugural address, NK Verma appreciated the efforts of DDE for organizing the workshop and involving senior faculty from PG departments and affiliated colleges for writing the study material.
He said these efforts would definitely advance the content, quality and presentation of the study material.
Speaking on the occasion, Director, DDE, Dr Meenakshi Kilam apprised that the process of the training of the in-house faculty and teachers from PG departments of the University and affiliated colleges have been taken up on priority by the directorate in order to improve the content and quality of study material provided to Distance learners.
Prof CRK Murthy in address stressed that study material is the backbone of Distance Education system and highlighted the role of teacher in the study material.
Jai kumar Sharma, Prof Jasbir Singh, Prof A Wani, Dr Dharminder Mangotra were also present on the occasion.
In the first technical session Prof. CRK Murthy gave an overview of distance education system in India while in the second technical session Dr Ashok Gaba talked about instructional design issues and characteristics of self-learning material.
In the last technical session, the participants reviewed the existing study material and made presentations.
