| CPI (M) condemns hike in urea prices | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 20
State unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist) has castigated the decision of central government to hike Urea prices by 10 percent thus enforcing an increase of nearly Rs 50 per bag is bound to push farmers into further distress and adversely impact the production of major crops especially the food grains. In a press statement issued here today, State Secretary CPI (M) M Y Tarigami said that prices of fertilizers are to be de-controlled thereby allowing manufacturers to hike prices as they wish. Tarigami said that big players in the fertilizer sector will corner huge benefits at the expense of the poor farmers. He appealed peasants and different farmers’ organization to unitedly raise their voice against this anti-farmer decision and added that CPI (M) strongly condemns this anti-farmer move and demands its immediate withdrawal.
