In search of undiscovered art bounties, Academy embarks upon Talent Hunt
2/20/2010 11:22:39 PM

By SIDDHARTH
Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in its fast pursuits towards excellence is opening a new vista on the cultural front for the state’s hidden talent. In this endeavor the Academy is reaching far interiors to dig out remote possibilities for showcasing the latent talent on the national as well as international panorama.
“We are in process of establishing the colourful cultural extravaganza in the far reaches of the state that would help in identifying the diverse talent of the youth that generally remains suppressive,” said Zafar Iqbal Manhas, Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
He said that the pursuit of the Academy has been to recognize the scattered talent at various levels and provide them with a chance to excel at the state level first then to follow at the national as well as the international forum.
“This is for the first time that Academy is attempting a probability to reach the masses itself in its attempt to find out the talent in different fields and the novel idea mooted by us would provide us with a wider insight into the state’s artistic landscape,” said the Academy secretary.
The Academy that is conducting its maiden attempt in the Poonch Bhaderwah sector in its initial stage is all set to kick start the talent hunt in the area that would commence from February 22.
This would be followed in the different adjacent areas of Jammu province, the mirror attempt of the same as being is conducted for valley also.
“We would not be touching the capital districts like Jammu and Kashmir as both the regions have sufficient approach to the cultural hubs established in both the regions,” informed the Secretary adding that the idea to explore peripherals is to bring the virgin and raw talent from the deep interiors into the fore that besides reflecting the state’s rich cultural ethos would also help in projecting many such artful things of which the state is still elusive of.
“Though we boast of having the most rich cultural treasure in our state, yet there are many artful expressions in the remotest of the terrains in the state that quite often remain undiscovered due to the impossibilities of the reach of the state academy to these areas and the vice versa,” said the apparently excited looking Secretary who would be throwing open the maiden Talent Hunt for Poonch-Bhaderwah on February 22.
The enthusiasm among the art and culture mongers of these areas too is quite buoyed. They are terming it as a historical attempt being undertaken by the Academy to reach the undiscovered artful bounties of rugged and tedious terrain of J&K.
“We are in our cultural fiesta as our sons and daughters of this soil would get a chance to exhibit their latent talent for showcasing on the state as well as national panorama,” said jubilant Akram Khan, a theatre worker of Reasi who has been cherishing such dream of art experts coming to the deep interiors of such areas.
“Jammu and Kashmir would soon be gifted with a new idiom of art and culture from hilly and rugged terrains that have stood majestically, but yet unexplored,” he said.
