Sanctions Rs 144.11 cr under R-APDRP for 30 towns of State

JAMMU, Feb 20: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today reviewed the implementation of Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) and Restructured Accelerated Power Development Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) in the State, at a high level meeting.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that he would be holding quarterly meetings to review the pace of implementation of these schemes and directed the Deputy Comioners to hold such monthly review meetings in their respective districts.
Omar directed the engineers to take proactive measures in the power distribution system and minimize pilferage, both human and mechanical, for which he asked them to take the necessary technological support.
He also directed to maximize the coverage area under these schemes. He said henceforth the material purchase and physical progress of any project should coincide while directing the Deputy Comioners to monitor the same in their districts.
The meeting was told that a new Restructured Accelerated Power Development Reforms Programme has been launched in the country since April 2009and in Jammu and Kashmir, 30 towns including the cities of Jammu and Srinagar are being covered under it for establishment of baseline data and IT applications for energy accounting and auditing at an estimated cost of Rs 144.11 crore.
Reviewing the RGGVY, the meeting was told that an expenditure of Rs 365.71 crore has been incurred on the scheme till January 31, 2010. The meeting was told that the scheme, launched in 2005 in the State, is being implemented by J&K State Power Development Corporation and NHPC. The meeting was further informed that during the 10th and 11th Plans, the scheme was taken up in 14 districts, of which work has already started in eight districts and allotted in six districts.
Advisor to Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul, Minister of State for Power, Shabir Ahmed Khan, officiating Chief Secretary, Sameul Verghese, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Khursheed Ahmed Ganai, Comioner/Secretary, Power, B R Sharma, Comioner/Secretary, Planning, B.B Vyas, Comioner/Secretary, Finance, Sudhanshu Pandey and Chief Engineers of several engineering wings were present in the meeting.
