Saroori for early completion of Bani-Basohli, Bani-Bhaderwah roads

JAMMU, Feb 20

Calling for early completion of all the roads being constructed by the Border Roads Organization (BRO), Minister for Roads & Buildings (R&B) G.M.Saroori today asked the authorities of the agency to accelerate the pace and ensure the completion of Changam-Sinthantop road and black topping of Assar road before coming April this year.
Reviewing the pace of the road projects, coming up in R&B Sector, under various schemes, in a meeting, the Minister impressed upon the officers of BRO and R&B to speed up the job and ensure timely completion of all the projects, taken up in the state. He underlined the need for early completion of Bani-Basholi and Bani- Badherwah roads. Minister asked the BRO to sent revised Detailed Project Reports (DPR) of all the pending roads including Paddar–Kishtwar Road. He said to check the road accidents on different routes, particularly on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and Batote-Kishtwar road, the need has arisen to construct crash barriers on these routes.
Ganpat Bridge, Khalian-Paddar Road, Kishtwar-Sinthantop Road, Chater Kala-Kapran and Chattro-Singhpour tunnels also came up for the discussion
Giving details of the road projects, mostly coming up in the erstwhile district Doda, to to media persons, the Minister informed that Rs 6.13 crore have been incurred on the road projects, out of total approved cost of Rs. 8.43 crore in Kishtwar district.
He said Rs 3.66 crore have been spent on constructions of bridges, out of Rs. 7.12 crore earmarked for the purpose in the district during the current fiscal.
Saroori said to reduce distance, a bridge would be constructed over River Ravi in Basohli, adding the matter stands already taken up with Punjab government.
Minister said the BRO has been asked to speed up the construction of steel tunnel near Panthal, on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, which gets frequently blocked due to landslides and shooting stones.
Saroori said to ease the traffic congestion in Jammu city, several projects are being started soon which include construction of two mega overhead flyovers from Bikram Chowk to Satwari and Jewel Chowk to Canal road adding that widening of Gujjar Nagar, Prem Nagar and Satwari-Airport roads, the work would be started soon, after the land acquisition process is completed.
He said Deputy Commissioner, Jammu has been given some time to acquire the land required for the purpose. Work would be started shortly to make Kunjwani- Satwari, a 4-lane road to meet the requirements, Minister added
Commissioner Secretary, R&B, Mehboob Iqbal, Chief Engineer, R&B, Jammu BL Sharma, Colonel Rogbir Singh from BRO and engineers of R&B were present on the occasion.
