| Teenager Wamiq Farooq was anti-social, say Police | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 20: Wamiq Farooq who got killed by a tear smoke shell on January 31 was an anti-social element. This is what police today said in its report filed in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Srinagar. The police said a case had been filed in connection with the attack on the police vehicle that day. Investigations are on and police are looking for other accused. The CJM urged the Bar Association to file its objections by March 1. The police report reads: “Police were trying to control the unruly mob at several places in down town that evening. The protesters attacked a vehicle bearing registration No JK02P/ 6912 of police station Nowhatta. Several tear smoke shells were fired by the police in self defense and to disperse the protesters. A shell hit a protester causing injuries to him. The protester later succumbed.” Wamiq’s relatives have rejected the police report as ridiculous and fabricated. “Wamiq had gone to play cricket in Gani Memorial Stadium and was killed in cold blood”, they said. The killing of Wamiq evoked severe reaction from the people. For five days the whole of Valley observed total strike. Violent protests across Kashmir left 200 people including 50 police men injured.
