| 12th class student hangs self over sweater brawl | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 20: At a place like Jammu, which witnessed a trade boom in the last two decades, suicide by a youth of well off parents over the use of a sweater is the last thing anybody would want to hear about. After a severe reprimand by his father Rajinder Gupta, who owns a shop of gift items on the ever-busy Canal Road here, Ronik Gupta (20) committed suicide by hanging himself to death at their residence on Canal Road this morning. Ronik, who studied in 12th class in a private school near Nagbani, was the only son of his parents. The trouble began at about 9 am or so when Ronik wore the sweater of his father, who objected to it and also allegedly reprimanded him. In a fit of anger, he later hanged himself from the ceiling fan hook in his room and committed suicide. He did not apparently want to be stopped from wearing father's sweater and hence, took the reprimand very personally. His mother too was alleged to have disapproved of his wearing father's sweater. These developments jolted him. He was later found to have allegedly killed himself. The body was seen hanging from the ceiling fan hook at about 10 am by family members, who wasted no time in evacuating him to the nearby Government Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced him brought dead. The inconsolable father did not trust doctors and refused to shift Ronik's body to the mortuary. He repeatedly pumped the dead son's chest, rubbed his feet and hands, but he did not revive. He was heard telling all, who had gathered there, that his son had not died and would get up anytime. He did everything to revive his son till 3 pm, but when he did not respond, he agreed to shift the body to the mortuary. After post-mortem, the body was handed over to his family members for last rites. A case in this connection stands registered at the Canal Road police post.
