| Troops told to be firm on checking infiltration | | |

Jammu,February 20 :-With the advent of spring in the Kashmir valley security agencies fear further increase in the level of infiltration from across the border.Official sources said that even during the winter months militants made series of bids to cross into Jammu and Kashmir but the security forces foiled these bids.
Sources said that despite security bandobast some militants managed to cross into Kashmir.They said that the recent border violations by Pakistani troops by pounding the Indian pickets with gun and mortar fire was part of the plan of carving out infiltration route for the militants.A senior police officer said that at times militants first opened fire on the Indian border and the Pakistani troops gave sufficient fire cover to keep the Indian troops engaged on one side while infiltrators crossed into Jammu and Kashmir on the ot her side.
In support of his claim that ingress level has gone up the police officer referred to the latest statements of the Defence Minister,A.K.Antony,Union Home Minister,P.C.Chidambaram and the Army Chief,Deepak Kapoor and said that they have stated that while the level of militancy related violence has gone down the rate of infiltration had gone up during the last one year.
He said that stone pelting groups of youth in the Kashmir valley have received full support from the militants operating in the valley.They have decided to lie low for the time being.He suggested to Delhi that during the ensuing foreign secretary level talks India should raise the issue of infiltration.
Another police officer said that agencies across the border have realised that militants have registered decline in their man power and in order to makeup this deficiency attempts were being made at pushing groups of militants into Jammu and Kashmir.On the other side additional troops have been deployed on the entire IB and the LOC to prevent militants from snealing into the Indian territory.In addition to this additional gadgets are being installed on the LOC to monitor the movement of infiltrators.Troops have been direct ed to shott down anyone trying to cross into Jammu and Kashmir.The troops have been asked to immediately repair the border fence whereever it has been snapped by the infiltrators
