| Army empowers aspiring youth in J&K | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, Feb 21 As a unique initiative the Headquarters Northern Command Human Resource Development Centre at Udhampur has provided a much needed opportunity for the under privileged youth of the state to benefit from a high caliber faculty, imparting a career oriented personality building programme comparable to the best available in the rest of the country. This premier facility aims at augmenting the potential of the boys and girls from the remote underdeveloped regions of the state, seeking a career not only in the defence services as commissioned officers by channelising their personality traits, but also honing their reasoning and intellectual abilities in a manner that empowers them to compete on a level footing with their competitors from the better developed regions of the country in various other fields as well. This structured course for duration of four weeks commenced from 27 Jan and is being conducted by an experienced and dedicated faculty of instructors from the Army’s Education Corps under Col AS Paul. The vision and necessary impetus behind this endeavour is the brainchild of GOC-in -C Northern Command Lt General BS Jaswal, a distinguished son of the soil, who clearly recognises the challenges and impediments which the youth of the state have to face in dearth of such avenues while seeking their career prospects . One of his focus areas is to empower the local youth by affording them this exceptional opportunity. Seventeen aspiring boys and girls with varied educational profiles from all regions of the state including the valley evinced a keen response while attending this programme. Appreciating the hardships and other resource constraints of the students, the army is providing them with free boarding and lodging facilities.
