| ASHI organizes Women, Children Meet at Jagti | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 21
The Association for Social Health in India (ASHI), J&K Chapter, organized a Women and Children Meet at Jagti on the outskirts of the city today. The First Lady, Usha Vohra, who is also the President, ASHI, was the Chief Guest at the function. Vohra visited the venue of the painting and ‘Rangoli’ competitions and had a round of the food stalls put up by the women of Jagti and the surrounding villages. She also visited the stalls displaying items prepared by the Self Help Groups and evinced keen interest. She interacted with the competing participants and stall holders and appreciated their talent and themes. She gave away prizes to the best-adjudged participants of cultural items and the rangoli, painting and spoon race competitions. Speaking on the occasion, the First Lady lauded the efforts of the children and womenfolk and underscored the importance of such events as a potent tool for awareness generation and for manifesting community action. Vohra exuded confidence that such programmes would go a long way in promoting socio-economic and educational advancement of the women and children, particularly in the rural areas, adding that given their talent and confidence they have a bright future ahead. The First Lady also inaugurated a week-long awareness generation camp for rural women at Jagti Panchayat which has been sponsored by the Jammu and Kashmir State Social Welfare Board. She impressed upon the women participating in this programme to benefit from such interactions as they have an important role to play in shaping the future of their children. Vohra gave away certificates to the girls who had participated in the 2-month long soap making training held under the aegis of Khadi and Village Industries Commission of India at Nasik. Vice President, ASHI, J&K Chapter, Sushma Choudhary, in her welcome address, said that ASHI has adopted Jagti Panchayat for intensive development and enhancement of socio-economic indices of the community through the paradigm of participatory action. In her Vote of Thanks, the Secretary, ASHI, Prof Kailash Rajput, dwelt on the activities of the organization and also its future plan of action. Secretary, Apna Ghar, Prof Rita Jitendra, gave a resume of the programme and the events being organized as part of the Women and Children Meet.
