| 3 months free ration for 563 villages of Poonch, Rajouri: Akhoon | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 21: Government has decided to provide free ration for three months to the drought affected people of the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri. This decision would benefit people of 178 village of Poonch and 385 villages of Rajouri district. Announcing this during his tour to the twin border districts, Minister for CA&PD and Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon said that monitoring and supervision mechanism has being further strengthened to ensure that only genuine persons get this benefit without any difficulty. Referring to the reforms introduced in public distribution system, Akhoon said the field officers are being made more accountable and responsive to the problems of the consumers adding that strict action would be taken against erring offices and workers, including ration dealers, salesmen and supply officers, while honest and dedicated employees workers would be encouraged and rewarded suitably. Akhoon also chaired officers meetings at both the districts and asked the concerned District Development Commissioner to ensure that buffer stocks of ration are kept available to meet the requirements of the people. He said on the instructions of the Chief Minister, the ration quota has been enhance from 35 kgs to 50 kgs per ration card, out of which 15 kgs would be available on APL rates. The Minister also announced that SRTC would ply two Super Deluxe Coaches from Jammu upto Cross LoC Trade Centre at Poonch for the convenience of traders and visitors traveling through Poonch Rawlakote route. Akhoon instructed the District Development Commissioners and concerned Transport officers to work out a hassle free mechanism for clearing transport permit cases so that more buses including Tata Sumos and Mini buses could be pressed into services on various Poonch- Rajouri routs for the convenience of the passengers. Several deputations, comprising prominent citizens, public representatives and various political organizations also met the Minister and apprised him about individual and collective problems confronting people of Poonch and Rajouri Districts.
