| Govt mulling ‘performance award’ for docs, paramedics: Sham | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 21: Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma has said that yearly performance award would be instituted to acknowledge good work of the doctors and para-medics in the Health Department. The proposed award would comprise cash and citation The Minister was addressing a huge gathering, after inaugurating a newly constructed Labour ward at Bishnah Hospital, here today. The newly constructed 10-bedded ward with blood storage and toilet facilities has been constructed by the Police Housing Corporation, at a cost of Rs. 15 lakh. The Minister said various reformative measures have been initiated to streamline the health services, especially in the rural and far-flung areas, during the past one year and results are becoming visible on the ground. He said that the Government was keen to promote private sector in the Health Department in a systematic way, without hampering the work of Government institutions. The Minister maintained that private practice of the doctors will be made more transparent. “All Government doctors shall have to seek permission from the competent authority for private practice, indicating the place of practice, failing which, they will be liable to punishment, under norms.” He said that a doctor can practise at one place only and trend of visiting more than one place was to be checked, the Minister asserted. Reiterating the resolve of the Government to deal sternly with the private Nursing Homes, running without fulfilling the norms, the Minister said that the Government does not want to harass anyone unnecessarily, but no one will be allowed to violate the set norms and directions of the Supreme Court. He said that Nursing Homes, violating the norms have been given the one week and after expiry of the deadline, the defaulters will face action. Responding to the demands of locals, the Minister said that an emergency power line for the local hospital would be arranged within ten days. The Minister also issued instructions to Director Floriculture, Jammu, to develop a park adjacent to the hospital premises for the facilities of people. In his address, the MLA Bishnah, Ashwani Sharma lauded the efforts of the Health Minister for upgrading the health facilities in the Bishnah hospital. Later, the Minister also inspected the newly constructed multi-purpose complex constructed by the Horticulture Department, at a cost of over Rs. 25 lakh for the facilities of the farmers.
