| Registering case against Wamiq Farooq a shameless act: Mir | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 22 :
Peoples Democratic Party today organised massive rallies in Srinagar and Jammu against the killing of innocent youth, HR violation, price rise and shortage of ration and power.
In Srinagar, a huge rally of senior leaders and workers was held at party headquarters which later marched towards Residency road. However, police tried to stop the rally but most of the workers succeeded in reaching the press enclave.
The rally was led by senior leaders of the party, including, Mohd Ashraf Mir District president, Ab Hameed Kosheen, Showkat Gayoor and Er Nazir Ahmed Yatoo General secretaries of Youth wing and all zonal presidents , who were carrying banners and raising slogans to protest massive human rights violation and government failure on all fronts.
Addressing the rally the party general secretary Mohammed Dilawar Mir said the present government had instead of responding the people’s problems had unleashed state terror on them. He said a new trend was set by Omar Abdullah government in which the victims of violence were prosecuted and punished rather than stopping the use of brutal force. He said registering a case against 13 year old Wamiq Farooq was a shameless act. He said this in line with the Shopian case in which the victim’s family, lawyers, witnesses and common citizens were prosecuted and killers let off.
Calling for people’s movement against the misdeeds of Omar Abdullah government, senior leader and former minister Qazi Mohammed Afzal said the government had in one year of its existence brought only miseries to the state. He said this government has lost the moral right to govern.
Referring to the acute power shortage faced by people of Kashmir, Mir said it was strange that even though power generation in the state has increased significantly with the launching of Baglihar and Doolhasti projects electric supply had reached on all time low.
Meanwhile, senior leader Tariq Hameed Karra asked the workers to dedicate themselves to agenda of the party. He said the party would not compromise on the security and the safety of the people which had been jeopardized by the present government.
The rallies were organised in view of the last weeks protest at all the district headquarters of the state against the anti-people policies of the people. The Party resolved to continue its campaign to focus on the problems faced by the people as a result of the NC led government’s failure to resolve day to day problems .
