| SAC threaten authorities for widening road | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, 22nd Feb: Shopkeepers’ Action Committee (SAC) comprised of Narwal Pain, Air Port Road Jammu Cantonment held at Shiva Temple Narwal Pain under the Presidentship of Rajesh Bakshi, Corporator Cantonment Board, Ward NO.2. Main agenda of the meeting was to oppose the arbitrary decision of the government to widen Satwari Air Port Road which has already been widened thrice. The latest widening was carried out in 1992 when the road was converted into four lanes, thereby dislocating the poor shopkeepers and the residents.
A protest march was held on 4th of January 2008 and the traffic was blocked by the agitated sufferers in this regard. The matter was raised in the Assembly and the government at that time came with a reply that the residents will not be dislocated unless a comprehensive rehabilitation plan acceptable to the people is put in place. Now the authorities at the helm of affairs have decided to go ahead without caring for the dislocation of the poor people. The participants condemned the high handedness of the authorities in the strongest terms and hoped good rule will prevail otherwise the suffering people will prefer to die than to lose their livelihood and teach the authorities a lesson. Corporators of Ward No. 1 Hardev Singh and Ward NO.7 Bharat Bushan, and large number of shopkeepers & residents of the area also participated in the meeting and assured their whole hearted support for the cause of people.
