| 11-day-old baby dies due to asphyxiation | | Police register murder case against Baramulla youth | | Early Times Report The strike to protest arrest of youth across Kashmir took an ugly turn today when an 11 -day -old baby died in Baramulla after stone throwing protestors stoped the vehicle in which the infant was being taken to a hospital for health check up. Protestors demanded the occuppants of the vehicle to join them. Elsewhere in the Valley 30 persons including 9 police men and 4 photojournalists sustained injuries. According to reports Upon refusal, the protestors got into a fisticuff with the child's mother and father. 11-day-old Irfan was injured on the head and started bleeding through the nose. The infant was pronounced dead on arrival at the Baramulla hospital. Nishar Ahmed Magre, the infant's father said they were travelling from Dangi Bacha in Baramullah to Sopore in north Kashmir and that on the way they boarded a matador which was stopped by two Sumos in which protestors were raising azadi slogans. He said the protesters stopped the matador and told these people to come and join the protest. The father said that when they resisted there was a scuffle the infant suffered head injuries and started bleeding from nose and that after reaching the hospital infant succumed to head injures., Irfan fell down receiving injuries in the head. He was rushed to hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The news of the tragic incident evoked severe reaction in Raowach, Rafiabad. People including a large number of women came out and registered strong protest against the youth. They demanded stern action against the culprits. DIG North Kashmir, Abdul Qayoom Manhas while confirming the incident said the police had registered a case of murder. A massive manhunt has been launched to arrest the culprits. In another incident, troopers roughed up the Tehsildar Baramulla and his staff. The Tehsildar while talking to media persons said the troopers dragged him out of his office and misbe3haved with him. “They set me free at the door”, he said. The Tehsildar’s staff called for two day strike to protest the incident. Several groups of stone pelting youth enforced strike by pelting stones on shops and vehicles, reports said. Later the youth clashed with the police and CRPF at several places in the town. Scores of persons including some police men sustained injuries. The Sopore town also observed total shut down. Violent clashes have been reported from the town. Reports said stone pelting youth clashed with the police near Iqbal market. Heavy stone pelting caused injuries to 2 police men. In retaliatory police action more than 10 persons were wounded, reports said. Srinagar, by and large, ignored the strike call. However, stone pelting youth appeared in Lal Chowk and ensured total shut down in the heart of the summer capital. The police fired tear smoke shells and later fired several rounds in air to disperse them. The clashes left at least ten persons including four police men injured. Four photojournalists, according to reports, were manhandled by angry police and CRPF men at Maisuma. The injured include Kashmir Times lens man, Imran Ali, NDTV’s videographer Tariq and Kashmir Moniotor photographer Umer Ganie..
