Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 24: The leader of main Opposition party Mehbooba Mufti today spewed venom against what she alleged the “dictatorial and authoritarian” attitude of the ruling NC led coalition government in the state which she said has been resorting to repressive tactics to curb the voice of common people. An angry Mehbooba even reminded Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that he was only Chief Minister and not a Maharaja of the state and asked him to desist from “repressive” and “threatening” tactics.
“There used to be their policy of Bullet against Bullet ……but now they have resorted to the policy of Bullet for stones….young innocent boys are being booked for irrelevant sections which is something unheard of ….” Mehbooba said while speaking to media after Governor’s address. This, she added had created alienation and anger among the youth which is why the youth are coming out on roads in various parts of the valley.
Mehbooba, who chose to express her ire against the NC alone , said the government led by this party had failed on both governance and political front.”They have even failed to take the political process forward….the agenda of peace and development pursued by the previous coalition regime is nowhere in sight”, the PDP leader lamented. She sought the attention of the Governor towards these issues saying being the constitutional head he needs to take the lead and role of the things.”He has to see that in a state where over 60 percent voter turnout was registered and people showed inclination towards democratic set up, what were the reasons that pushed them to brink of protests and anger”, she observed.I wonder what does this government expect of people in dismay and distrust….do they expect them to pick up the guns instead of staging peaceful demonstrations, the fiery PDP leader questioned.

The government she alleged had lost credibility in totality and the space for the mainstream political parties was shrinking. She alleged that the Chief Minister resorted to dictatorial attitude when he ordered withholding of additionalities in recent District Development Board Meetings at Pulwama and Kulgam.”Just because people were staging protest at some distance from the venue of the meeting in support of their demands, he resorted to dictatorial attitude……this is even more ridiculous that this order was followed by withdrawal of security cover from PDP leaders”, she pointed out.To a question she said it was not the question of being bothered by these moves….it is matter of right in any democratic set up, Mehbooba said adding that the tactics only amounted to oppression and repression.”Omar should know that he is the Chief Minister not a Maharaja…”, she asserted, expressing anger and resentment.
