Jammu, Feb 23: Securing highest 28 points, Jammu and Kashmir Police today clinched the overall championship trophy in the two-day State Wrestling Championships held under the banner of J&K Wrestling Association at University of Jammu grounds, here.
Jammu district bagged the overall runners-up trophy in men’s section with 22 points. Earlier, in both men and women sections, seven weights each were decided with wrestlers from districts of Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Leh, Udhampur and those from University of Jammu and J&K Police contesting for the top honours..
Today’s final bouts were officiated by Bansi Lal Tidyal, Mulkh Raj Sharma, Kulbeer Singh, Babu Ram Pathania, Jai Bharat, Ranveer Sharma, Krishan Lal and Dheeraj Sharma.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof Varun Sawhney was chief guest in the finals and prize distribution function. He lauded the efforts of the J&K Wrestling Association in promoting the game of wrestling in Jammu and Kashmir.
Prominent among others present were Director General Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), S A Leharwal, Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, president J&K Olympic Association, Rangil Singh, president J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma and president of J&K Billiards and Snooker Association, Siddharth Sharma.
