| Killing resonates in LA | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 23: The issue of brutal killing of the two Sikhs in Pakistan by the Taliban resonated in the state Assembly today when the members of the BJP and Panthers Party sought a resolution to be moved and the killings be condemned by the entire House. The Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone expressed solidarity with the concern of the members and said the matter related to safety of minorities needed to be taken up by the Centre with the Pakistan government. The BJP and Panthers Party members raised the issue during the question hour and sought to move a resolution for condemnation, the matter actually came up after the question hour when the members got up once again. BJP leader in the House Prof Chaman Lal said the party expected a resolution from the chair to condemn the brutalities inflicted on the Sikhs by Taliban. “Such incidents are bound to have reaction in the Valley…….Taliban is behaving in a way as if it there should be no community existing in the world except theirs……the House should condemn this in unequivocal terms”, Prof Gupta said in the House. Even as statement from the government came from Revenue and rehabilitation Minister Raman Bhalla, condemning the incident and calling for measures at the government level for safety and security of life and property of Sikhs in entire Pakistan, the BJP and Panthers Party insisted that since the entire Jammu was observing bandh over the incident, the members of House above party lines needed to condemn it. The atmosphere suddenly took a different turn when Nazir Gurezi from NC stood up to highlight the incident of infant’s killing at Rafiabad and sought to target PDP for defending the stone pelters who, he said, were responsible for the death of child in tragic circumstances. While he continued to make scathing attack on the PDP, Panthers Party MLA Harsh Dev Singh, interrupted and alleged that the two parties NC and PDP were trying to settle personal scores inside the House by accusing each other. “Yahan Sara Jammu bandh Hai Aur Aap Dono Partian Aapas Ki Ladai Main Lageh Hain……(the entire Jammu is tense and observing bandh over the incident and the two parties are settling their scores), Harsh Dev Singh said. When one more member of ruling NC Mir Saifuulah also joined Gurezi in his condemnation of the Rafiabad incident, this resulted in some exchange of words and bickering between BJP and Panthers Party on one side and the NC members on the other side. The two NC members who echoed concern over the infant’s death and the Speaker directed the government to come out with a statement as to under what circumstances child died and also identify the killers.
