| Entire Opposition creates ruckus in Lower House | | PDP boycotts House for whole day, BJP MLAs stage walkout | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 23: Noisy scenes and pandemonium which continued for the second consecutive day today in the state Assembly dominated the proceedings during the question hour as entire opposition comprising different parties was up in arms over a host of issues. The PDP which tried to stall the proceedings after creating ruckus for nearly 45 minutes staged walkout and boycotted the entire business listed for the day. In what appeared to be the pre-decided strategy of the party leadership PDP members led by Mehbooba Mufti got up on their seats soon after the Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone entered the House and started raising slogans against the government. The members of BJP and J&K Panthers Party also stood up to rake up their issues in an equally vehement voice that added to the atmosphere of clamour in the House. However, in an attempt to be heard properly, while the PDP members stood up at their places, choosing not to make much noise, the BJP members led by Prof Chaman Lal Gupta raised the diverse issues –from atrocities on Sikhs in Pakistan to surrender policy of the state government .They even chose to take on the government for its failure to check unabated price rise saying it was telling upon the common masses badly. “Yeh Sarkar Zinda Logon Ko Marney Main Kamyab Ho Rahi ……..Yeh Sarkar Mahngai Badaney Main Kamyab Ho Rahi…..”, the BJP and JKNPP members echoed these slogans in sarcastic tone reflecting their resentment against the policies of the government. While both these parties raised noise for about 10 minutes, BJP members after having failed to get the government attention and response staged walkout. With BJP’s walkout PDP members who were already on their feet now got more space to fill the air with their slogans woven with taunts against the NC led coalition government in the state. Raking up the issue of human rights violations, the party leadership however kept their focus on the killing of an infant in Rafiabad area of Baramaulla in Kashmir valley on Monday. “NC Daur Phir Nikla, Hai Hai Yeh Adamkhour Nikla (NC rule is once again here and they are proving to be killers), Yeh Sarkar Nikammi Hai (this government is incompetent..) Hadtali government Hai Hai….Katil government Hai Hai….”, the slogans almost in one voice by the PDP members created an atmosphere of complete pandemonium in the House . Even as the Speaker tried to pacify the agitating PDP members and said that he expressed solidarity with their concern and cause, his interventions only fumed them to the extent that they intensified the sloganeering and loud shoutings. Though few members took up their questions which the government answered, but nothing was audible in the din that prevailed for over half an hour. The PDP members wanted the government to respond to the issues which they said were important than the proceedings of the House. Making a scathing attack on what they said uncalled for action of government against youth under PSA, the PDP members even made the names like, “PSA Sarkar….Zalim Sarkar Hai Hai”. The protest of PD P inside the House became loud when they tore the question booklet and other papers related to the question hor into pieces which they threw in front of the chair of the Speaker. Not to budge to the requests of the Speaker, all the members except their leader Mehbooba Mufti came in front of the Speaker and tried to enter the well of the House. As the Watch and Ward staff tried to prevent their entry, this resulted in small scuffles. An agitated Mehbooba Mufti pointing out towards the treasury benches alleged that the government by not taking up the issues of killings in Kashmir valley and allowing the business to continue was only making a mockery of the House. The entire party staged walkout and boycotted the business of the day.
