| ‘CM’s statement on local bodies shocking’: Kavinder | | | JAMMU OCT-11-‘Saying that the suggestion of Chief Minister that local bodies should not depend on the state government for their financial needs is shocking’, the BJP said that the party was expecting that the CM would fulfill his assurance made earlier that the government will set apart 10 per cent of the total toll tax for these bodies. In a statement, the senior BJP leader and ex-Mayor JMC Kavinder Gupta said that it was unfortunate that Chief Minister instead of fulfilling that solemn pledge has now taken a U-turn and asked the local bodies to raise funds to meet their financial needs. Gupta hoped that the Chief Minister would review his stand on the local bodies and implement the February 2005 decision in letter and spirit to the effect that such bodies get 10 per cent of the total toll tax collected by the government. The BJP is convinced that even this step will not meet the requirements of Jammu Municipal Corporation fully, he said and urged the government to set apart the same percentage of other taxes it collects at the disposal of the Corporation to carry forward the tasks assigned to it.
