| Surrender policy under attack by BJP, PP | | | Early Times Report
Jammu , Feb 25: Contesting the relevance of surrender policy for facilitating return of youth who have crossed the border years back, the members of BJP and J&K Panthers Party attacked the coalition government contending that latter is doing so for political gains. Both the parties accused the government of adopting double standards and being little concerned over the fate of West POK refugees and over the issue of return of Kashmiri Pandits.
The government came under sharp criticism and attack when the members gave vent to their feelings and apprehensions during their participation in Governor NN Vohra’s address in the Legislative Assembly today. “On one side the government is allowing the return of trained militants from POK and on the other hand they are not ready to give full rights to West POK refugees……..”, BJP senior leader and MLA Ashok Khajuria said alleging that the government was not giving Permamnent Resident Certificates to to these rfugees whereas some Tibetians have managed to get the same.
The BJP leader also came down heavily on NC for Autonomy slogan contending that the late leader and founder of the party Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah had himselfed reversed the demand agreeing to become Chief Minister instead of Prime Minister of the state. “ These are all meaningless questions now for the party gave up itself autonomy years back just for the sake of power”, Khajurai said. The BJP stalwart asserted that the talks of equality and equitable regional development sound hollow until government orders Delimitation of constituencies. Accusing both PDP and NC of working on agendas that were distancing J&K state from national mainstream and integration, the BJP leader said NC was going ten steps ahead of PDP in proving healing touch to ‘anti national elements.’
BJP MLA Jugal Kishore made scathing attack on the state government accusing both the ruling parties of having betrayed people by not fulfilling promises they made at the time of elections.”The government is worried only about the yoputh in POK but is least bothered about POK refugees and Kashmiri Pandits whose return slogan could not materialize in past 20years”, Jugal Kishore said adding that Jammu and Ladakh will get justice and their due only after Delimitation of constituencies.
The fiery young leader of Panthers Party Balwant Singh Mankotia also lambasted the government for surrender policy asking NC and Congress to introspect that what were the reasons that forced the youth take up the arms and cross over to other side 20 nyears back.”They cannot make people for a ride and ask them to follow whatever they want to do each time…..this won’t be tolerated any more” , Mankotia said in an assertive manner. The Panthers Party MLA also criticized government for what he said perpetual discrimination with Jammu and Ladakh, contending regional and sub regional differences won’t be removed until Delimitation happened.
‘Let Jammu have separate state’
The MLA Langate engineer Rashid Ahmad today said in the State Assembly that if Jammu people would ask for a separate state, he would be the first person to support the move.Participating in the discussion over Governor’s address, the MLA from Kashmir valley said in the backdrop of the accusations and allegations of discrimination, it was better to have a separate state on the pattern of Chattisgarh and JharKhand.”There is nothing wrong in it……provided the state is not carved on religious and regional lines”, he said adding that the it was not only people of Jammu who felt they were subject to discrimination instead there is widespread feeling a,mong Kashmiris that for funds meant for Kashmir were often lapsed and spent on works on Jammu.
