| Chancellor inaugurates Cross-Cultural Management at JU | | | Early Times Report Jammu , Feb 24 Two day, 2nd International Conference on “Cross-Cultural Management: Practice and Research” organized by International Centre for Cross Cultural Research and Human Resource Management, The Business School, University of Jammu was inaugurated today by N N Vohra, Governor and Chancellor, University of Jammu. Prof. Varun Sahni, Vice-Chancellor presided over the function. Prof. Neharika Vohra, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad was the Key Note speaker. Dr. Haseeb Drabu, Chairman, Jammu & Kashmir Bank Limited was the Guest of Honour. The Conference was attended by faculty, research scholars and students of various business schools of the state in addition to various members from the corporate world, government and other sections of the society.
Chancellor said that the multi-lingual, multi-dialect and multi-cultural Indian society presents tremendous challenges for the business, trade and commerce. He emphasized upon the need for recognizing, accepting and respecting the differences between and within the cultures for achieving harmony, peace and tranquility in the society. He further suggested that University of Jammu in collaboration with industry should undertake localized research which is relevant and helps to remove the constraints of economic growth and human development.
Prof. Neharika Vohra in her keynote address discussed in detail about Internationalization of business environment, assumptions of Cross- Cultural environment and application of cross cultural management in today’s business scenario. She said that in addition to the knowledge and abilities the future professionals should develop skills including respect for others, tolerate ambiguity, be it non-judgemental and empathic. She said it is the high time that the industry and researchers should come together to address the manifest and latent issues related to cross-cultural management. Dr. Haseeb Drabu emphasized the challenges the corporate world is facing because of the intra national and intra regional differences in addition to the international cultural differences. He also spoke about investment patterns of the bank, introduction of the concept of “Silk route Banking” and collaboration with University of Jammu for undertaking research of corporate relevance.
Prof. Varun Sahni said that it is important to reflect on the extent to which the environment influences the culture and vice-versa. Based on a recent research, he said that students of J&K have immense capacity to deal with stress and uncertainty. While quoting eminent international thinkers, he said that all the cultures have something important to say for all human beings and therefore the understanding of culture should be valued by interacting and immersing in the culture and by learning foreign languages.
Earlier Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Director, The Business School and International Centre for Cross Cultural Research and Human Resource Management, introduced the varied concepts of Cross Cultural management and throw light on the unrelenting quest for excellence and persistently striving to build and enhance sustainable competencies in the era of International perspectives. She thanked all the invited speakers and delegates for coming to sharing their experiences.
During the inaugural function the MBA Placement Brochure was also released. His Excellency presented the Dewang Mehta Award for Excellence in Education and Dainik Bhaskar B-School leadership award for excellence in business education and training. Prof. M R Rana and Prof. J R Dhotra, senior Professors of The Business School received the awards on behalf of TBS. Prof Ashok Aima, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies presented the formal vote of thanks. Mr. Anil Gupta, Assistant Professor, The Business School and the Conference Secretary conducted the proceedings of the function.
