| Lecture highlights concept of feminism | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 24: Department of Urdu, University of Jammu in collaboration with the academic staff colleges organised a thought -provoking lecturer of reputed novelist, short story writer, poetess of the sub-continent Mrs. Tarnnum Reyaz on feminism in Urdu women literature with special reference to feminist movement in Europe.
The programme was presided over by Prof. Hamdi Kashmiri, former Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University while Prof. Anees Ashaf, HOD, Lucknow University was the guest of honour, Prof. Anees Ashaf was the chief guest on the occasion.
Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, HOD Urdu and Mr. Ranjeet Kalra, Asstt. Director Academic staff also shared the presidium. In her lecture, Tarnnum Reyaz highlighted on the concept of feminism. She informed that first women convention was held at Sencafall and feminist movement started in Europe in 1848 AD. The second women convention was held at Ohio before these conventions women was not given right of voting. It was after 70 years of Sencafall's conference the rights was granted to the women.
Trannum Reyaz stated that there is a difference between feminism and womanhood and stressed the writers to wrote more and more regarding the problems of women. A lively discussion took place between the audience and Tarnnum Reyaz. Various quarries she replied in a be-fitting manner.
Prof Hamidi Kashmiri, Prof. Anees Ashaf and Mr. Ved Bashin also threw light on different aspects of feminism movements. They said that in poetry and prose women had come forward and are doing well in projecting the problems of women through literature. They also congratulated the department of Urdu for holding this purposeful lecture at the very right time.
Earlier HOD Urdu Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik, presented a formal welcome address and introduced Mrs. Tarnnum Reyaz and Prof. Anees Ashaf to the audience. He also listed the works done by Tarnnum Reyaz and Anees Ashaf in the field of Urdu literature. Prof. M.A. Wani conducted the proceeding of the program ably while vote of thanks was presented by Prof. K.H. Suiddqui. Students, scholars and teachers of the university and colleges besides civil society members attended.
