Seminar on medicinal plants and herbal products organised

Jammu: A one-day seminar on “Medicinal Plants and Herbal Products” was organised at the School of Biotechnology, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra by the students (Himanshu Singh & Gourav Modi) of B. Tech. (Industrial Biotechnology) under the Coordination of Prof V. Verma, Dean, College of Sciences & Director SBT.
Dr. Sharada Potukuchi, Assistant Prof., SBT assisted the students in organising the seminar.
The seminar was sponsored by M/S Vestige Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi. Dr. K.S. Bhatia, Crown Director, Mr. Manohar Prashar and Dr. Nirdose Badyal, Silver Directors of the company participated in the in the seminar. M/S Vestige Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi deals in marketing and packaging of health & personal care and agro-products. It has 14 branches with 2 lakh distributors all over the country.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. R.N.K. Bamezai was the guest of honour. In his address, he enumerated the utilization of medicinal plants with the ‘Prakriti’ of human beings. He emphasised the need to validate the traditional knowledge on Medicinal plants using modern techniques. In this context he suggested exploring opportunities for quality control analysis of the products of the company in the laboratories of SMVDU. This he said would benefit both students as well as the company. He congratulated the students in taking the initiative of organizing the seminar.
At the outset Prof. Verma apprised the gathering that about the profile of the School of Biotechnology and research work being undertaken by the faculty in various fields. He praised the students initiative in organizing the seminar.
Mr. B.K Bhatia, Training and Placement Officer, SMVDU interacted with the Directors of M/S Vestige Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi and apprised them about the training & placement procedure of the university. It opined that their visit to the university would open a new vista for the students career opportunities.
Dr. K.S. Bhatia, Crown Director, Mr. Manohar Prashar and Dr. Nirdose Badyal, Silver Directors, M/S Vestige Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi in their address informed that gathering about their products and entrepreneurial opportunities for the students in their company. Later, they interacted with students in an informal manner for about an hour & half.
