Display Your Talent: GCW, Parade girl first in bhajan contest

RENDERING Meera Bai’s bhajan “Moh Pe Kaisi Yeh Mohini Dari, Chitt Chor Shyam Girdhari” in her melodious voice, Apoorva from Govt. College for Women, Parade fetched the first prize, in the Inter-Collegiate/Departmental Light Vocal (Solo) Competition, conducted by the Department of Students Welfare, under the “Display Your Talent” 2009-10.
Rahul Kumar, from Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Jammu bagged the second prize for his ghazal “Rang Tasveer Se Churata Hai, Dil Khud Apni Hansi Udata Hai” while Chaman Lal from Govt. Degree College (Boys), Udhampur, presented a Dogri song “Paarlia Dhara Koyal Bole, Jangalai Ch Bolan Mor, Dil Mera Bada Darda, Miki Ikkli Ni Jayan Chod” and clinched the third prize.
The certificates of merit, were awarded to Vandana Kalotra and Mandeep Kour both from Govt. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Priyanka from R.K. College of Education, Bari-Brahamana, Vivek from Govt. SPMR College of Commerce and Param Jyoti from MIER College of Education.
The participants presented Dogri, Punjabi and Hindi Geet, besides ghazals and folk songs.
Sh. Parduman Singh, Mrs. Anita Sharma and Mrs. Neelu Birender, were the adjudicators for the said event.
The competition was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Mrinalini Atrey, the teacher Incharge, of the Light Vocal (Solo) event.
The programme was compeered by Rameshwari Slathia, secretary, Students Cultural Council whereas Joginder Singh acted as the time keeper. The event was managed by Ankita Gupta, Vikas Sharma and Gagandeep Sharma.
Among others Prof. G.M. Bhat, Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee, Prof. Versha Mehta, Co-Chairperson and Prof. J.S. Tara, Dean Students Welfare ,were also presented.
It may be mentioned here that Creative Dance (Solo) competition shall be conducted on February 26 at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium.
