| 2nd International Conference on Cross-Cultural Management at JU ends | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 25: The two-day 2nd International Conference on “Cross-Cultural Management: Practice and Research” organised by International Centre for Cross Cultural Research and Human Resource Management, The Business School, University of Jammu concluded today. Prof Varun Sahni, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest at the Valedictory function. Sh. Devender Rana, Political Advisor to Chief Minister, Jammu & Kashmir was the special guest and Prof. N.A. Ganai, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu presided over the function. Mr. D K Bakshi, Vice-President Global – Human Resources, Indorama Polymers, Thailand and Mr. Aquil Busrai, Executive Director- HR, IBM India were also present. In his address, Devender Rana said that those who change need to adapt, adopt and assimilate. He said it is important to look after your men, motivate them and lead them from front with example; be open to ideas; practicing what you preach and being committed to customers. During the valedictory function, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Varun Sahni presented certificates to all the participants. He said ``we must acknowledge, respect and take advantage of the socio-cultural complexity of J&K’’. He said ``though we should fly high with our wings, we should always stay connected to our roots.’’ Earlier Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Director, The Business School and International Centre for Cross-Cultural Research and Human Resource Management, Conference Convenor thanked all the speakers and said that this conference shall now become a regular feature and shall invite speakers and researchers from all the across the world. She further informed that the knowledge generated through this conference shall be published in form of a book in the near future. Mr. Aquil Busrai assured the vice chancellor for rendering full support from the HR fraternity for strengthening the industry-academia interface in the state of J&K. Mr. D.K Bakshi said ``we Indians should show to the world that we are the best breed in the world and carry the flag of our country . Prof. N.A. Ganai in his presidential remarks emphasized on the importance of learning foreign languages and mentioned that the personal and social skills play a critical role in effective cross-cultural management. Mr. Anil Gupta, Conference Secretary, Faculty, The Business School presented a detailed report of the Conference proceedings. Dr. Jaya Bhasin, Conference Coordinator conducted the proceedings of the valedictory function. Earlier in the day over 20 research papers in the domain of cross-cultural management were presented by authors coming from all parts of the country in parallel tracks. A panel discussion on cross-cultural issues with special reference to Jammu & Kashmir was also organised. Sh. Sanjay Sarabhoy, Chief (HR), NHPC; Sh. Sanjay Puri, Chairman, CII (J&K) Chapter; Prof. Ashok Aima, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Mr. Manjot S Gill, Mindone Consultants were the key panelists. A special student session was organised on the theme “3E’s (Education, Experience, and Enlightenment): A Global Student Movement” was conducted by Ms. Gunjan Raina, Country Head (India), Global Talent Consultants (I), India and later a session on theme “Student Placements: Issues and Challenges” was conducted by Dr. Dinesh Sharma, Shailesh J Mehta School of Management, Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai.
