| Academy creates history, moves to villages | | Likely to sponsor talented rural youth for official functions | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 25 FOR the first time in its history, the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages has decided to branch out thereby providing hundreds of rural youth a chance to showcase their talent. As part of the branching out exercise, the Academy has launched a Talent Hunt programme targeting rural youth so as to promote and project their talent on mass scale. “We have done this to bring fore the hidden talent of the rural youth so that the best are chosen for subsequent sponsorship,” Academy Secretary, Zafar Iqbal Manhas said. The logic behind conducting the exercise is to identify youth talent in different fields of art ranging from dance to singing to sculpting to painting. “The Academy has done this for the first time in its history and would continue the programme in other border districts of the state also so that those having talent are brought to the fore,” Zafar said. Kick-starting the state sponsored Talent Hunt programme in the border district of Poonch Additional District Commissioner, Poonch, Matloob Ahmad Khan said these programmes were the need of the hour and the Cultural Academy deserved compliments for this. Khan’s comments were seconded by the guest of honour, Advocate Rajinder Singh, President Municipal Council, Poonch said that Academy was doing a commendable job as custodian of state’s culturo-artistic heritage and the talent hunt initiative attested this. On the first day of the programme, about one thousand people witnessed the event at Community Hall, Poonch. Besides ADC, Poonch almost all district heads of various government departments were present on the occasion. Earlier in his welcome address, Special Officer, Culture, Mipam Othsal said that it was Academy’s mandate to explore hidden talent and the institution was moving in that direction at a fast pace. The event proceedings were conducted by noted anchor Pradeep Khanna while Cultural Officer, Rajouri-Poonch, Dr. Shahnawaz presented the vote of thanks. The Talent Hunt competition, which began at 10:30 am in the morning at Community Hall, Poonch, would continue for about a week.
