| Mehbooba speaks ,leaves House fuming as she walks out in a huff | | | Early Times Report Jammu Feb 25: After two days of continuous ruckus and clamor in the Legislative Assembly , the leader of Opposition Mehbooba Mufti today finally broke the deadlock by choosing to speak on the floor of the House, only to leave in a huff along with her MLAs when the government responded to the points she raised. This not only infuriated the members on the treasury benches but also left allies and even other opposition parties fretting .The Law Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar retorted Mehbooba would have submitted the resignation had she patience to listen. He attributed this conduct of losing tolerance to PDP sensing their political future in danger .
The Budget session of the Legislative Assembly witnessed order and the first normal beginning of the business as PDP, the main opposition party which had been trying to stall and disrupt the proceedings during the question hour today sat quietly. The leader of the party Mehbooba even spoke during the half an hour discussion which Speaker allowed after the question hour. During her speech she accused the present coalition government of undoing the works the previous government led by PDP did in terms of restoring people’s faith in mainstream and removing alienation among the masses.
“We adopted pro people policy for which we earned the name of following pro militant and even pro Pak agenda but we continued and tried to give government a human face….we acted against the forces that worked in creating isolation and alienation among the masses.” Mehbooba said adding that the policies of their government were endorsed by New Delhi and even by the opposition at that time.
Alleging that Kashmir situation has again reached boiling point on account of the wrong policies of the government Mehbooba asked the NC led government to have introspection to know the reasons for this burning situation. “You have completely discredited the system which we made…….you will have to find out what wrong happened during past 14 months that had alienated the masses forcing them to come on the roads”, she said asserting that only infiltration and PDP were not responsible for deterioration in situation. The PDP leader said stones were the spontaneous reaction to the wrong policies and it will serve this government no purpose to book hundreds of stone pelters under PSA.
Even as Mehbooba comleted her speech with rapt attention from the House, the situation took a sudden turn when Law Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar got up respond to the issues she raised. “There is nothing new in what she has been saying against the government, particularly the NC…..”, the very first line irked Mehbooba and her party who again resorted to bickerings. Amidst trading of charges against each other, PDP members made a hasty retreat, staging walkout and opting to stay away from the rest of the proceedings today.
A visibly angry Law Minister Sagar termed this conduct of PDP as government’s victory saying the party had neither capacity nor any tolerance to listen to the government versions.”It shows they are in dock…..they are sensing their political future is in danger…….the concocted stories and baseless allegations also shows to what extent they can stoop low for political interests”. The CPI leader MY Tarigami and BJP members besides the members on treasury benches also strongly criticized the way PDP members left the House. “It shows they do not want to listen to what other members feel about situation….”, said Prof Chaman Lal senior BJP leader. “We have been tolerating their noise for the last three days but when our turn came, they just exhibited lack of tolerance”, said Tarigami. In his brief speech he exhorted the House it did not behove well of politicians anymore after two decades of bloodshed to politicize human tragedies. |
