| CM hails central approval for 4-laning of Jammu- Srinagar NH 1A | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, FEB 26- Chief Minister, Mr Omar Abdullah today welcomed the decision of the Union Cabinet for the implementation of projects for four-laning of the Jammu- Srinagar National Highway IA.
Expressing his gratitude to the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh for this landmark decision, Mr Abdullah said that the Rs 9377 crore project would transform the economic landscape of the State which is heavily dependent on surface transport. The project will not only reduce the distance between the two regions but will also reduce the cost of travel and movement of goods between Srinagar to Jammu and various other destinations enroute the Highway, he maintained.
"Jammu and Kashmir deserves a special dispensation, and it is heartening that the Centre has been appreciating this in immense measure and endeavouring to satisfy the developmental requirements of the State", the Chief Minister said and expressed his appreciation for the sagacious approach of the Prime Minister and the UPA Chairperson, Mrs Sonia Gandhi towards this end.
